You Gotta Know When To Fold 'Em

When Weather is a Factor

"There is a Tropical Storm travelling.  I checked the projected path and they indicate that by about 2pm on Saturday - the storm should be upon us".  My client was not too thrilled to hear those words come out of my mouth.  "By 2pm, we will be gone right?  That's what you said", my client reminded me with surety in her voice.  The truth was that I had - 6am - 2pm, that was the time that the ad had given and my client wanted to stick to that.  And as if to let me know that she was not changing her date, she concluded:  "I have had these things sitting in my garage for far too long and my husband said that he is tired of looking at them and will dump them if I do not get rid of them".

Now there are only a few things that I do not wrestle with - one of them is mother nature and the other is a determined client - after all the customer is king and I work for them, so they have the final word - I   just make sure that their word is carried out to the best of my ability.

Items were sorted and priced, the location determined (my client lives in SandyPort and preferred not to go through the hassle of trying to have a garage sale there - so I found an alternate location), the ad was placed on the 4th of July and by the 6th of July when it started to run, persons had already started to call despite the fact that the ad had indicated the following Saturday - 13th July as the Yard Sale date.  Its plain and simple - 'Most people like a good sale'.

I met with my client on the 9th July, just to go over the 'Finalization List' and to price some last minute items that she had decided to pull down and I tried to once again persuade her to reschedule.  The truth is - I have never done a "rainy day" sale, never even been to one.  I have just crawled back into bed despite the fact that many ads had read - 'rain or shine'.  My love for my bed on a rainy day far outweighs my love for a good sale.  Whew! That was hard to admit.

So its on - My first potentially rainy day sale.  My client had the final say, but we are smart about it and have put some extra precautions in place.  We have agreed to make one final call at about 5am on Saturday as we watch to see how TS Chantal develops.  Yes everyone likes a good sale - not a good tropical storm.

My mantra: "I'm not cheap - I'm economical"

Here is the ad for the Yard Sale
