Something to Sing About?
In my opinion, a shopping experience shouldn't feel like I just ran 'Marathon Bahamas' (believe me, Paradise Island bridges are nothing to play with). Whether I'm shopping at Tiffany's or at someone's yard sale, the experience should be the same - well, not exactly the same, but both should be a thrill.
What should be the same however is that at both places, I should be able to find treasures. And by find I don't mean that I should be knee or neck deep (depending on the entry approach) in some cardboard box trying to find that deal that I know is in there somewhere.

| 'Box Hunting' is not a MUST at Yard Sales |
Picturing these types of garage sales made me think about the catchy first line from the song 'Hunting' by Spragga Benz "Hunting, Hunting, Hunting, Haffi find something, something, something..." (of course he was looking for something else, but the passion was there).
The point is that you are not trying to sell your garbage. Your garage/yard sale should be organized and neat so that shoppers are be able to find what you have to offer. It should look like a garage sale ... not a garBage sale. As a shopper, I should not feel like Adele "Rolling in the deep..." mess labeled garage/yard sale.
Sell items that you no longer need or want - but are still in great condition. If you present your goods like garbage, then people will see it as such and they will not stay and browse.
I think that the concept of garage/yard/patio sales in the Bahamas have gotten a bad name because of what persons try to sell and the way that it looks.
Put items where shoppers can easily find them. There are many ways to organize or group your items in order to avoid that haunting 'hunting' experience.

Create a good shopping experience for your customers - one that they will 'never forget' and they will 'keep coming back for more'.
Until next time ...
My mantra" "I'm not cheap - I'm economical"

I totally agree with your post. I don't even waste my time going to garage sales anymore because of the disorganization.
ReplyDeleteI hope that I will somehow encourage those who are guilty to change their presentations and I can somehow encourage you to return. I have found some real treasures at garage/yard sales.
DeleteKeep your eyes open for sales hosted by The Frugal One - I promise you won't be disappointed.
Dorenda what are you selling and how often do you hold sales ... I find some wonderful items here in fla and was trying to find an outlet to really promote great deals there can u suggest how I may go about it .... I know if you place ads in the newspaper and say yard sale people want to shop with pennies ... the items I come across are really valuable to the average shopper who is fine with spending for a good buy but how do you find that market.... I used to be in MMA they also really want bargains its not about the quality of goods its about talking you down
